Acquaint yourself with the popular British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP)

When it comes to choosing a provincial nominee program (PNP) for your Canada immigration as a permanent resident, there are a number of choices available that you can look at before making up your mind to go with a particular one.

Among these one popular choice is the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program, also known as BCPNP in short. Through this economic immigration program, workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs can seek Canada PR visa and settle permanently in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

BCPNP is one of those Canadian Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) that often remain in news for the regular draws they hold inviting candidates from varying backgrounds to apply for Canada PR. It is one of those PNPs that offer equal opportunity to skilled workers, international students and entrepreneurs through its custom immigration streams – designed to help people fulfil their aspirations by seeking nomination under BCPNP.

The PNP also has an Express Entry linked stream which is particularly helpful to those candidates who are already in the federal government’s Express Entry pool. Such candidates can ensure that they receive a guaranteed invitation to apply (ITA) for Canada PR.

How this works is – if you are able to secure a BCPNP nomination, you will earn 600 CRS points. This will give a significant boost to your CRS score, so much that it will easily take you past the required score to receive an ITA. This is applicable to all PNPs that help you earn 600 CRS points.1

Pathways under BCPNP

BCPNP offers 3 different ways to become a permanent resident in the British Columbia province. Each pathway has different categories that candidates can apply under, depending upon their National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level, job, or international student status.

Skills Immigration

Skills Immigration stream is meant for semi-skilled and skilled workers in high-demand occupations in British Columbia. It follows a points-based system. In this process, candidates have to register and apply online for the PNP.

Prior work experience may not be required for some categories. Skilled workers can apply with their foreign work experience. Semi-Skilled and entry-level applicants need work experience in the province. Recent international graduates from a Canadian University may not be required to have  any work experience, however, it depends on the job being offered.

Express Entry BC

Express Entry BC is comparatively a faster way of immigration to British Columbia for eligible skilled workers. For this stream, a candidate must qualify for a federal economic immigration program. It also uses a points-based system, and is completely an online registration and application process.

For this stream, a candidate doesn’t need to have work experience in British Columbia. However, relevant work experience is required while also meeting other requirements e.g. language proficiency and education, etc.

Entrepreneur Immigration

This immigration stream has been designed for experienced entrepreneurs who wish to run a business in the province. It follows a points-based  system. The candidates are required to have the required personal and investment funds.

Some of the BCPNP categories are managed through a unique system, which is known as the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Under SIRS, candidates are first required to create a profile and provide personal information relating to their job offer in British Columbia, language ability, level of education and work experience.

SIRS works on an Expression of Interest (EOI) basis, as per which registered candidates are assigned a score out of 200. The BC government conducts regular draws, in which candidates who meet the cut-off score for their particular category, are invited to apply for a PNP nomination.

Although some BCPNP categories require candidates to have a job offer from an employer in the province, certain categories managed outside  SIRS do not have the job offer requirement.
